Keren Cytter, Object, 2016, 27 mniutes
“The video uses language (Russian) as a political tool to meditate on the clichés of heteronormative sexual relationships. What initially appears as flippantly pornographic, is in fact a tightly constructed series of nine locked-down shots, separated into three acts. Object tells the stories of three men and one women, who each represent the power structures of the patriarchal world, and the common abuses its systems enable. Object will provide viewers relief from contemplating their own mortality, but still allow them to lose time, as they realize that the penises on the screen are hiding difficult truths in plain sight.”—Kathy Noble

Keren Cytter, Terrorist of Love, 2016, 3 minutes
“Tapping into a viral strain of humor found on Tumblr and GIF-sharing sites, the video is as chuckle-worthy as it is contemplative. Using a fixed 4K camera, Cytter shot the video in one take, before devising an unconventional music video format in post-production using key framing, meme-like imagery, and an original soundtrack—an unprecedented approach to video-making in any genre.”—Commissioned by Daata Editions and Artspace.
