The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm is a leading artistic higher education institution with a long tradition dating back to the beginning of the 18th century. Artistic work and sharing of knowledge
At the Royal Institute of Art, the students’ artistic work lies at the heart of all teaching. Students compose their own education, choosing from a wide range of workshops, courses and lectures. Each student has a renowned artist as supervising professor responsible for the student’s artistic development. In consultation with the professor students set up their individual studies—and long-term objectives. Studying Fine Art at the Royal Institute of Art
The programmes in Fine Art at the Royal Institute of Art differ structurally from many other educational outlines. The Royal Institute of Art offers two programmes: A five-year programme in Fine Art and a Master in Fine Art programme. The Master programme follows the structure of year 4 and 5 of the five-year programme. Most of your time at the institute will be spent on courses in individual artistic practice. The content of these courses is determined by yourself in consultation with your supervisior. Individual artistic practice at the Royal Institute of Art enables you to work independently in the studio and in the institute’s many workshops as well as to choose from the multitude of optional course elements offered on an internal course catalogue. Amongst the Royal Institute of Art’s approximately 230 students unfolds an extensive field of artistic expressions, attitudes and temperaments. Key concepts are independent artistic development, experimentation and critical discussion. Students at the Royal Institute of Art have extensive opportunities to take part in international exchange programmes with some of the foremost arts organisations around the world.
