Kunstverein Bremerhaven von 1886 e.V. is an art association committed to the promotion and communication of contemporary art. To this end, it operates the Kunsthalle and the Kunstmuseum in the center of Bremerhaven, covering around 1,000 square meters of exhibition space for both temporary exhibitions and the presentation of the association’s own art collection. The Kunstverein also offers integrative and educational art programs at its Kreativhaus Goethe45 studio. As part of the institution’s current restructuring, our previous honorary curator model will be replaced by the newly created position of a full-time Director.

Your role
The Kunstverein is looking for a Director to manage the curatorial, research and administrative responsibilities of the Kunsthalle and Kunstmuseum. The role will involve the development and implementation of an exhibition program with both national and international reach, as well as the maintenance, research and development of the Kunstverein’s art collection. The range of duties will also comprise administrative and financial operations (including human resources, budget management, IT, and fundraising), property management and all areas of public relations.

Candidates
We are looking for an individual with proven professional experience in art institutions, an extensive knowledge of contemporary art, and experience with project management and art education programming. The ideal candidate should also have an understanding of financial management and excellent fundraising skills. They should be able to work in a team and be confident handling standard office and image processing software, social media platforms and content management systems. A basic knowledge of day-to-day building management would also be an advantage. Fluent German language skills are required.

What we offer
The position provides an excellent opportunity for personal career development through the management of a traditional art association and the development of an independent program for its two exhibition venues—the Kunsthalle and Kunstmuseum—while being supported by a motivated team.

This is a full-time position. The post is initially limited to five years, followed by an option to extend the contract every five years.

Please send your application by post or email by August 31, 2020 to:

Board of Directors, Kunstverein Bremerhaven von 1886 e. V., Karlsburg 4, 27568 Bremerhaven, Germany,
Email: kunstverein [at] nord-com.net

We look forward to receiving your application.

Applications will only be returned if a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope is enclosed. Application costs will not be reimbursed.
