Volume: Bed of Sound
A Discussion-with-music

“Volume: Bed of Sound” is a large sound art exhibition at P.S.1, featuring the largest futon-bed in the world and new recordings by some 60 artists. On August 19th, P.S.1 presents a special event to celebrate this unique exhibition.  A panel of artists from the show will gather around microphones,  each equipped with their own laptop computer, and broadcast a “discussion-with-music” through speakers in the Volume gallery.  The public can leasurely  lie back on the bed and listen to a discussion on “sound in the age of digital manipulation,” interspersed with real-time computer processed music by  the panelists and excerpts from recordings that are featured in the exhibition itself.

Panelists/performers include: Elliott Sharp (Volume curator), Zeena Parkins, DJ I-Sound, Stephen Vitiello, Ben Rubin, and Genesis P-Orridge.  This event will take place inside, while outside, P.S.1 will continue it’s Warm Up 2000 live DJ series with Arto Lindsay, Liminal, and DJ Spooky,  from 3pm to 9pm.
