A double exhibition by Raimund Kummer in the Montagehalle and Hochschulgalerie of the Braunschweig University of Art.
How does an arist look at their work from a contemporary perspective? In two exhibition venues at the Braunschweig University of Art, a hybrid sculpture and a compilation of black-and-white photographs will be set in opposition as self-retrospective extractions. The two exhibitions have one thing in common: the works on display are being shown for the first time. From the perspective of self-retrospective, they have been discovered, or reevaluated, through comprehensive research undertaken for Kummer’s Catalogue Raisonné, and address both his spectrally rich life’s work as well as the historiographic-artistic “view of the self.”
Kummer weint (Kummer cries) in the Montagehalle: over 1000 analog vintage prints, hand and digital prints on Baryta paper, screen prints behind glass, xerographic books, and wall and spatial works in the medium of black-and-white photography spanning from 1976 to today.
Schliess die verdammten Eisfach! (Shut the damn freezer!) in the Hochschulgalerie: a complex sculptural arrangement in which sound, text and digital film projections surround a central, space-filling resonance body. Titles generated from the sculptor’s OEuvre vaporize into the space.
A comprehensive exhibition catalog will be published.
