The Braunschweig University of Art is an internationally oriented, artistic-scientific university with the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. With around 1,000 students in the fields of fine arts, teaching, design, art history and media studies, the HBK Braunschweig is one of the biggest art universities in Germany. It provides space to exercise mental freedom, with open fields of activity in which students can develop their personalities in accordance with their individual skills and abilities. Diversity, gender equality, and equal opportunities are key goals which are practised each and every day in studies, teaching and panel activities.
Workshops and Laboratories
Outstandingly equipped workshops for innovative and traditional working techniques are available to all HBK students over an area of more than 2,000 m², for example, for working with wood, metal, synthetics, paper, ceramics, sculpture, model construction, typography, layout and various printing techniques. There is also a photo studio and laboratories for analogue and digital photography as well as workshops for sound and film and video technology. Students receive expert support from highly qualified workshop staff.
Events by teachers and students
Changing exhibitions and guided tours are held in the university gallery, in the "Montagehalle" as well as at other locations inside and outside the Braunschweig University of Art. Many of these events evolve out of concrete student projects and in collaboration with students.
