Following its rapid growth and expansion in recent years, the Tulane School of Architecture (TuSA) is seeking to fill multiple tenure-track and professor of practice positions across its programs—architecture, historic preservation, real estate development, social innovation and social entrepreneurship, and the school’s newest graduate program in landscape architecture.
“As we offer a broader range of courses and disciplines, it is imperative to build upon our existing excellent faculty,” said Iñaki Alday, Dean at TuSA. “We are seeking the most innovative and capable individuals to lead the next generation of architects, designers, preservationists, real estate developers, and creators.”
The new faculty positions are needed not only as the school develops new programs and courses, but also as the school’s student population has nearly doubled in three years.
Located in New Orleans, TuSA focuses on the built environment at multiple scales—from buildings to neighborhoods and their people, and from urban landscapes to regional planning. TuSA is known for robust community outreach, design-build, and multi-disciplinary research initiatives—collaborating with other schools and centers at Tulane in the fields of science and engineering, liberal arts, law, and public health. The school is undertaking design research that involves climate change, coastal and riparian crisis, historic preservation, sustainable real estate development, and the challenges for social and environmental justice.
“In the center of the Gulf Coast, the Third Coast, the complex nature of New Orleans and its region provides ample opportunities for comparative global studies,” said Alday. “Therefore, Tulane’s work provides relevant contributions to addressing social, economic, environmental challenges impacting millions of people in the world.”
All open faculty positions start as early as summer 2023. While some searches review applications this month, all will remain open until filled. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of when application reviews are initiated.
Assistant/Associate Professor of Architecture in Design and History/Theory or Design and Digital Media
Assistant/Associate Professor of Architecture in Building Technology, Climate and Energy Modeling
These two positions will focus on teaching foundational and research studios and courses in TuSA’s Architecture program to give students thorough professional preparation and opportunities for advanced study in architecture.
Assistant/Associate Professor of Historic Preservation
This position will contribute to TuSA’s Historic Preservation research agenda in the area of preservation, while supporting the teaching of preservation design studios and related courses.
Professor of Practice in Real Estate Development
The Real Estate Development program is seeking applications from candidates in the fields of real estate development, urban planning, and/or the building sciences, among other fields, to teach introductory real estate finance courses, urban economics courses, and/or building science related courses with a focus on sustainable design and construction.
Professor of Practice/Lecturer for Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE) Program
SISE is an interdisciplinary program situated within TuSA for students from across Tulane. This position will teach courses in the topics of social innovation, social entrepreneurship, design thinking for social impact, change leadership, community engagement, public interest design, among others.
Tenure or Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Landscape Architecture: Water and Landforms
Tenure or Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Landscape Architecture: Plants and Ecologies
These two faculty positions will contribute to the development of TuSA’s new Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Sciences in Engineering (MLA-MSE), and teach courses, seminars, and design studios focused on water, landforms, plants and ecologies. The new MLA-MSE is being launched in collaboration with RCSE (River Coastal Science and Engineering), (EENS) Earth and Environmental Sciences, and (EBIO) Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
Visiting Assistant Professor (Tulane Architecture Fellowship)
This visiting assistant professor position is a two-year teaching and research fellowship that endeavors to mentor emerging academics, contributing to the increase of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the built environment. The Tulane Architecture Fellowship is part of the national Deans’ Equity and Inclusion Initiative, of which TuSA is a founder member.
