Foundwork is overjoyed to announce that artist, organizer, and educator Satpreet Kahlon—currently based in Brooklyn, NY—has been awarded the 2024 Foundwork Artist Prize. Now in its sixth year, the prize will grant Kahlon an unrestricted 10,000 USD and studio visits with each of our five 2024 jurors.

In addition, Adam Farah-Saad, Minne Kersten, and Joyce Joumaa were named to the 2024 Short List. The honoree and each of the three shortlisted artists will also participate in individual long-form interviews as part of Foundwork’s ongoing Dialogues program.

Our 2024 prize jury included five distinguished members of the global art community, hailing from five continents:

Rachel Uffner, Founder of Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York City / Olivia Aherne, Curator at Chisenhale Gallery, London / Monsieur Zohore; multidisciplinary artist based between Richmond, Virginia, New York City, and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire / Mohamed Almusibli, Director and Curator of Kunsthalle Basel / Lorraine Kiang, Cofounder of Kiang Malingue Gallery, Hong Kong.

“Satpreet Kahlon’s practice stood out for its profound engagement with themes of identity, memory, and cultural history, delivered through a deeply personal yet universally resonant lens. Her ability to weave together salvaged materials, immersive installations, and thoughtful narratives reflects an exceptional depth of creativity and rigor. The overall quality of the applicant pool was impressive, but Satpreet’s work was truly remarkable in its originality and impact,” said Mohamed Almusibli.

“I am most honoured to be part of the juror group for the Foundwork Prize. It gives room for so many of us—no matter if art professionals, artists, or students—a chance for discovery and the opportunity to be discovered. Satpreet’s work interweaves her personal background, engagement with her community, and produces thoughtfully lyrical, fragile yet tactile sculptures and installations—attempts to connect to the world that feel intuitive, humble and genuine,” said Lorraine Kiang.

The Foundwork Artist Prize reflects the Los Angeles-based platform’s larger purpose to create visibility and engagement for emerging and mid-career artists, and to enable discourse and access between artists, curators, and collaborators globally. In 2023, our honoree was Valerie Asiimwe Amani and, in 2022, the prize was awarded to Dominique White.
