Artissima, Italy’s only fair devoted exclusively to contemporary art, returns to Turin from 31 October to 2 November, with a preview on 30 October.

Alongside its high-level market offering, the fair once again provides audiences with a multitude of cultural and educational projects that connect with both nearby and distant worlds.

The collaboration between Intesa Sanpaolo and Artissima continues with an exhibition dedicated to moving images, hosted in the spaces of Gallerie d’Italia – Torino. Titled The Screen is a Muscle and curated by Luca Lo Pinto, the exhibition features works by Bruce Conner (Thomas Dane, Naples); Low Jack & Invernomuto (Pinksummer, Genoa); Tommy Malekoff (Zero…, Milan); Vijay Masharani (Clima, Milan); Eva & Franco Mattes (Apalazzo, Brescia); Shahryar Nashat (Sylvia Kouvali, London, Piraeus); James Richards (Sylvia Kouvali, London, Piraeus); SAGG Napoli (Import Export, Warsaw, and Zazà, Milan, Naples); Julia Scher (Esther Schipper, Berlin, Paris); and Anastasia Sosunova (Eastcontemporary, Milan).

In Parco Michelotti, inside the former zoo of Turin, and in collaboration with the City of Turin, Artissima presents New Acid by Basim Magdy (Hunt Kastner). Shot on 16mm, the short film depicts zoo animals within their enclosures exchanging illogical messages that connect them to the wider world.

The ballroom of the historic Hotel Principi di Piemonte | UNA Esperienze, in the centre of Turin, will host Vittoria sul Sole, a contemporary art installation by Renato Leotta, in collaboration with Sprovieri.

There are also three exhibitions featuring award-winning artists from the previous edition of Artissima: Paul Pfeiffer, winner of the 2024 Premio Pista 500, presents a project for the billboard of the Pista 500 at Pinacoteca Agnelli; Angharad Williams, winner of the 2024 Premio illy Present Future, presents a solo show at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo; and Nicola Bizzarri, winner of the 2024 Premio VANNI #artistroom, unveils a capsule collection and works in the project room of VANNI Occhiali.

Artissima also welcomes anonymous art project into its spaces, an initiative promoting Japanese contemporary art, founded in 2023 by Japanese entrepreneur Hiroyuki Maki, heir to a family tradition rooted in philanthropy. On show are works by Aki Inomata, Yuki Hasegawa, Junya Kataoka, and Rie Iwatake.

Numerous projects at the fair are inspired by this year’s theme, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, and by Richard Buckminster Fuller’s visionary futurism. These include audio guides offering an immersive and inspiring journey through the booths, a series of talks featuring publishers, artists, philosophers, curators, and designers; and an editorial project—the drafting of an Operating Manual—that brings together diverse voices orbiting the contemporary art system to reflect on this theme and explore how to navigate our planet through the challenges of the present.
