INHABITABLE/UNINHABITABLE

Demanio Marittimo.KM-278 is a marathon dedicated to architecture, art, design, and the spatial and cultural dimension of the Adriatic. Curated by Cristiana Colli and Pippo Ciorra, the event returns for its 15th edition on Friday, July 18, taking place—as always—on the public beach of Marzocca di Senigallia, running non-stop from 6pm–6am.

This year’s theme, INHABITABLE/UNINHABITABLE, serves as a lens through which the beach of Marzocca connects with contemporary global phenomena and ideas.

The setting of the event is the outcome of a student competition organized by the Architecture School in Ljubljana. The winning project, KM-0.07, is by Lenart Berdon, Sima Bucar Fiskin, Miha Kramberger, and Ian Vidic.

Demanio opens with a tribute to the “Master of Territory”, Mario Giacomelli, one hundred years from his birth in Senigallia. His work will be discussed by Katiuscia Biondi Giacomelli, Francesco Permunian, Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, and Massimo Raffaeli.

After an opening lesson by Marco De Michelis the Slovenian architects Bevk & Perović will present their work. In the year of the Venice Architecture Biennale, Marzocca will host a panel featuring:

–Andrea Faraguna, curator of the Golden Lion-winning national pavilion,
–The team Diller Scofidio + Renfro, designers of Canal Café, Golden Lion for Best Project
–Tatiana Bilbao Estudio will discuss their project (with MAIO Architects) for Holy See Pavilion, special mention (curators Marina Otero Verzier and Giovanna Zabotti)
–Michael Obrist (co-curator) will speak about the Austrian pavilion
–Aleksandra Kędzorek (curator), from the Polish Pavilion

The recent experience of the V&A Storehouse by Diller Scofidio + Renfro will fuel a conversation on “open storages” and archives. Participants include Elizabeth Diller, Bryce Suite, Margherita Guccione (MAXXI), Katya Inozemtseva (Fondazione Prada), Maristella Casciato (Getty Research Center), and others.

Territorial Agency (Ann-Sofi Rönnskog and John Palmesino) will present their project for the Lisbon Triennale, How Heavy is the City? opening this October. On the stage with them Atelier Poem, who curates a festival of “microarchitecture” and Lithuanian representative Martynas Germanavičius from the Open House Europe project.

The INHABITABLE/UNINHABITABLE theme continues in several focused discussions:

Inhabiting the Sky (in partnership with the European Space Agency) explores extraterrestrial habitability and the potential for living on other planets, featuring Paolo Conte, Annalisa Dominoni, Paolo Ferri, and the astronaut Luca Parmitano.

Inhabiting the Stadium, inspired by the MAXXI exhibition, investigates the stadium as a public, collective, and multifunctional space. Speakers include Moira Valeri, Fabio Salomoni, Manuel Orazi, and Emanuela Audisio.

Inhabiting the Gallery looks at the transformation of Franco Noero’s gallery in Turin, once marked by a defined identity and now undergoing change. Noero will discuss this with Mia Rigo and Martino Gamper.

A black box projection space will run throughout the night, forming a third section of the program with contributions from MUSE Factory of Projects, and MAO Museum of Oriental Art, Turin. Then, from the MAXXI exhibition STOP Drawing: PLANET CITY, introduced by the author, Liam Young, and the short films by the LINA fellows produced in the MAXXI-LIFT film workshop (Atelier Remoto + Jacopo Biffi, Docar, Harvest Salon, Lab212 Collective, Planting Solidarity Co.), introduced by Dunja Krvacac and Irhana Sehovic.

Special guest of the Adriatic architectural and cultural scene is Albanian artist Anri Sala, who will be in conversation with Sislej Xhafa and Lorenzo Benedetti.

The new issue of Mappe 23, published by Gagliardini, will be launched during the event, with a focus on performance. Fumi della Fornace, a project by Collettivo Congerie, will present SITUS INVERSUS, a performative research organism curated by Giorgiomaria Cornelio and Giulia Pigliapoco. Another performance will be repeatedly offered along the night by November Wong, who will stage a live experience of public drawing.

Confirmed partners include: MAXXI, MAO, the Municipality of Senigallia, the Marche Region, ADI MAM, INARCH, the Universities of Ancona and Camerino, and the professional associations of Architects and Engineers.
