Ibraaz announces its autumn 2026 programme at 93 Mortimer Street, London, opening on October 8 with Gabrielle Goliath’s Elegy and the Earshot Library-in-Residence, alongside ongoing presentations by Taring Padi and Joe Namy. Across the building’s multiple spaces—the Majlis, Minassa, Iqra, and Musalla—the season explores listening, testimony, collective memory, spiritual practice, and political solidarity from different geographies and contexts.
The programme coincides with Ibraaz’s first anniversary on October 15, marking one year since the opening of its London home, with a special anniversary event bringing together Ibraaz’s multiple communities. Over its first year, 93 Mortimer Street has developed as a “gathering of gatherings”—a space for artists, writers, researchers, and audiences to meet through exhibitions, public programmes, publishing, workshops, and informal exchange.
Gabrielle Goliath: Elegy

Gabrielle Goliath’s acclaimed Elegy (2015–ongoing) arrives at Ibraaz following its recent presentation at La Biennale di Venezia, where it was shown independently at Chiesa di Sant’Antonin following the cancellation of the South African Pavilion. Developed over more than a decade, the work gathers collective acts of mourning around lives and histories marked by violence, erasure, and structural loss.
Across eight funerary monoliths, voices and moving images create an immersive environment addressing rape culture and femicide in South Africa, the genocide of Ovaherero and Nama peoples in Namibia, and the ongoing devastation of Palestinian life. At Ibraaz, Elegy continues its exploration of collective mourning and kinship.
Earshot Library-in-Residence
October 8, 2026–June 27, 2027
Earshot, the not-for-profit organisation founded by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, becomes Ibraaz’s next Library-in-Residence. The residency assembles sound, research, and forensic investigation, exploring the capacity of sound to carry evidence and testimony.
Through their practice of Sonic Investigations, Earshot works alongside communities affected by corporate, state, and environmental injustice, examining how sound is heard, by whom, and within what technological, social, legal, and political conditions.
The Library-in-Residence brings together field recordings, listening stations, investigative case studies, and research materials across the Iqra. A programme of talks, workshops, and case launches will invite visitors to consider sound as evidence, memory, and witness.
These new presentations join two ongoing projects elsewhere in the building.
Taring Padi: Rakyat Pasti Menang

The Indonesian art collective Taring Padi presents Rakyat Pasti Menang, their first institutional exhibition in the UK. Spanning nearly three decades of practice, the exhibition brings together protest banners, woodcut prints, and wayang kardus (cardboard puppets), tracing a practice rooted in collective making, political education, grassroots organising, and solidarity.
Rakyat Pasti Menang reflects Taring Padi’s emergence during Indonesia’s 1998 Reformasi movement and its continuing engagement with struggles around labour, land, democracy, and social justice.
Joe Namy: Cosmic Breath

Joe Namy’s Cosmic Breath brings together recordings of the adhan — the Islamic call to prayer — from different geographies and periods, including Makkah, Jerusalem, Singapore, Khartoum, Tbilisi, and Durban.
Originally commissioned for the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah in 2023, the sound installation considers the adhan as a shared spiritual and sonic practice across place and time, activating the Musalla as a space for spiritual practice and creative expression.
