A brave space championing creativity and expression from the Global Majority.
Established by the Kamel Lazaar Foundation in 2011 as an online literary platform dedicated to visual arts and culture from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Ibraaz has evolved into a dynamic and fully integrated creative institution for all those with a desire to reclaim their past, present, and future. Amplifying the expressions of creatives and thinkers through the visual and performing arts, hosting transformative conversations, and experimenting with diverse forms of publishing, Ibraaz intends to shift how global culture is understood, shared, and celebrated.
Rooted in the philosophies, cultural sensitivity and pluralism of its North African origins and meaning ‘to shine a light on’ in the Arabic language, Ibraaz will serve all those with a passion for debate over dogma, belonging over exclusion, and enquiry over assumption. With empathy and respect for all at its core, it will endeavour to explore the lived experience with sincerity, acting as a vessel for resonant voices to express themselves beyond frontiers.
