The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), one of the nation’s top colleges of art and design, announces the launch of Professional Studio, a new offering of short, intensive courses designed to prepare creative professionals and organizations for the future of work.

Professional Studio offers an agile response to a rapidly changing landscape where creativity, technology, and innovation intersect. Developed by leading MICA staff, faculty, and industry practitioners, the program is built for individuals and companies who want to expand creative capacity, adopt emerging tools, and bring fresh approaches to their work.

The first Professional Studio offerings debut this fall and include:

Essentials of Culinary Photography
—An exploration of visual storytelling for food and hospitality industries, combining art direction, lighting, and digital techniques.

Generative 3D Assets for Game Design—A course at the forefront of gaming and immersive media, teaching participants how to integrate artificial intelligence into creative pipelines to accelerate and elevate production.

Future sessions will expand into areas such as art direction, coding, design software, and digital photography, reflecting MICA’s commitment to building bridges between creative practice and applied professional impact.

A platform for companies and creatives
Professional Studio was developed with both individuals and organizations in mind. For companies, it provides a flexible and practical way to invest in employee development, retention, and innovation. Courses are designed to be time-efficient while delivering immediately applicable skills—whether that means learning how AI can streamline a design workflow or mastering photography techniques that enhance brand identity.

For individuals, Professional Studio is an opportunity to expand their creative toolkit, gain exposure to new technologies, and connect with a network of peers working across design, art, media, and innovation sectors.

Why Professional Studio, why now?
Across industries, creative capacity is one of the most in-demand professional skills. Businesses, nonprofits, and cultural organizations alike face challenges that require adaptability, new modes of thinking, and a fluency with digital tools. MICA’s Professional Studio responds to this need by:

–Connecting emerging practice with immediate application
–Bringing leading creative and academic expertise into industry contexts
–Offering short, intensive formats that fit into professional schedules
–Fostering cross-sector dialogue between artists, designers, technologists, and industry leaders
