Vienna Art Book Fair #3

Fair hours: Friday, October 17, 5–9pm / Saturday, October 18, 1–7pm / Sunday, October 19, 12–6pm. Free entry.

The Vienna Art Book Fair #3 is an international platform dedicated to artists’ publications and independent publishing. Taking place at dieAngewandte—University of Applied Arts Vienna (Expositur Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7, 1030 Vienna), the fair brings together more than 140 exhibitors from 25 countries and transforms the venue into a vibrant hub for book lovers and creative exchange throughout the weekend.

Admission is free, highlighting the fair’s commitment to accessibility and open exchange. More than a marketplace, it is a space for dialogue, collaboration, and reflection. The Vienna Art Book Fair is organized by Das Kunstbuch, a non-profit association dedicated to supporting and promoting artists’ books and independent publishing culture. Over three days, it presents a free public program of book presentations, talks, performances, and exhibitions, offering insight into contemporary publishing practices.

Program highlights
Friday, October 17, 6pm: Opening with the experimental short film Sie puppt mit Puppen / She Dolls with Dollies by Karin Fisslthaler. 7:30pm: Talk by Matt Plezier (MonoRhetorik) and Moritz Grünke (Gloria Glitzer): Stick(er) It to the Man–A Radical Form of Publishing and the (Re)Claiming of Public Space. Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19: The Salon für Kunstbuch hosts a conversation between Bernhard Cella and Josef Schweiger about Schweiger’s artist’s book CI–centum unus. The program continues with Accidental Interest Books and Rollo Press presenting a reading performance from It’s the Hottest Day of the Year and Everyone Is Fucking Upset. Gundi Feyrer (Intervallverlag) performs Stimmige Irrtümer, while Morley House talks about The Multiple: Artists' Books and the Redistribution of Art, focusing on artists’ books and art book fairs as tools for amplifying diverse voices in art.

Exhibition
SPINORAMA and Quotes about Books from Books about Books are part of the ongoing series Self-Shelf: private (artists’) book collections made public, curated by Jae Kyung Kim (einBuch.haus). SPINORAMA is the first exhibition dedicated to the book spine, a crucial yet often overlooked element of book design. Featuring over 100 spines from diverse genres, it highlights the spine as both a structural and creative space. Curated by Aslak Gurholt and Fraser Muggeridge. Quotes about Books from Books about Books is an artist’s book, exhibition, and library project by Sveinn Fannar Jóhannsson, presenting 148 quotes reflecting on the book as medium, material, and metaphor.

On October 18, at 4pm, Fraser Muggeridge and Jae Jyung Kim will lead a guided tour through the exhibitions.

Fundraising edition
The Fundraising Edition of the Vienna Art Book Fair #3 (2025), titled 5 Freunde, was created by Sarah Bogner. It consists of a linocut edition of 12. Since the first Vienna Art Book Fair in 2019, Das Kunstbuch has collaborated with artists to create editioned artworks in support of our fundraising efforts. These editions are an important source of income for our non-profit association, helping us keep the event free and accessible to the public.
