We are pleased to invite you to our annual open day, taking place on Friday, January 30, 2026, both in person at our campus at Fred. Roeskestraat 96–98, Amsterdam, and online. For the first time, Sandberg Instituut will host a joint open day with Rietveld Academie, welcoming visitors interested in both MA and BA programmes respectively.
The open day is your chance to visit the campus, meet staff and current students, join a guided tour, and check out the workshops and department spaces across the school.
Please note that opening hours differ: Rietveld Academie (full-time bachelor): 10am–4pm / DOGtime (part-time bachelor): 2–7pm / Sandberg Instituut (master): 2–7pm.

Visitors interested in master’s programmes are welcome to visit the studios of the main departments: Critical Studies, Design, Dirty Art Department, Fine Arts, and Studio for Immediate Spaces; current temporary programmes Lumbung Practice and Monstrous Futurities; and learn about our upcoming temporary programme, Phantom Scores.

These presentations will be livestreamed for remote attendees, with scheduled Zoom Q&A sessions hosted by each department, as well as an Instagram livestream touring the academy, among many other activations.

About Sandberg Instituut
As the postgraduate programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, the Sandberg Instituut offers master's degrees in Fine Arts & Design and Interior Architecture through the main (permanent) departments of Critical Studies, Design, Dirty Art Department, Fine Arts, and Studio for Immediate Spaces. In addition, each year a new Temporary Programme is launched reflecting on a specific urgency or theme in society and the arts.
Through all its departments, Sandberg Instituut aims to expand and deepen the practices of artists and designers while also welcoming students with backgrounds in other fields and disciplines. It offers a uniquely small-scale, open and interdisciplinary environment which nurtures critical inquiry and reflection intertwined with diverse and experimental approaches to practice.
About Rietveld Academie
The Rietveld Academie is a small-scale, independent and internationally oriented university for fine art and design in Amsterdam. They offer a four-year bachelor’s degree programme that starts with a general formative year, the Basicyear, after which students can make an informed choice from twelve different specialisations, the departments. The academy also offers a five-year part-time bachelor’s degree programmecalled DOGtime. Graduates may use the title of Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design (BA).
The academy is home to a close-knit community of students and teachers from all over the world. Here, students and teachers create a learning environment where they work together, exchange ideas and generate new and innovative thinking. Rietveld Academie students learn in an open and self-organising environment. They work independently and with each other and the world around them. This prepares them for their own practice, both individually and collaboratively. Graduates of the Rietveld Academie are able to make critical and experimental contributions to contexts, communities and situations—and even create these.
