The University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning seeks a visionary, collaborative, and accomplished leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Architecture beginning July 2026. The Chair should be an experienced educator familiar with architecture and design practice to lead the Department and participate in innovative teaching and creative research.
Given the mission and student body composition, we are interested in applicants with experience in demographically diverse settings or who have a record of teaching, research, and mentoring that supports and benefits diverse communities.
Job responsibilities
The Chair holds the rank of Professor with commensurate teaching, research, and service responsibilities in the program and college, adjusted for administrative responsibilities.
Reporting to the Dean, the Chair supervises all faculty, represents the department at college and university levels, and works closely with the Dean to represent the needs and expectations of the department.
Responsibilities include recruitment, evaluation, mentoring, promotion and tenure, post-tenure review, and faculty leave. In addition, the Chair is responsible for departmental budget requests and administering financial affairs. Additional day-to-day operations include management of course offerings and curriculum, including the submission of course schedules and assignment of teaching. The Chair responds to student issues and oversees student recruitment, including admissions and retention efforts of current students.

The University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning is also seeking multiple full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors in Architecture positions beginning August 2026.
The department seeks candidates who can address contemporary challenges with an experimental and critical mindset, have a well-developed pedagogy, and a recognized record for contributing to studio discourse and culture with a progressive research agenda and/or creative practice agenda. Applicants must demonstrate the potential to teach undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds at the intersection of design, critical theory, and technology through studios, large lecture courses, and seminars.
Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching/scholarship. This includes publications, external funding, and a commitment to innovative research initiatives. We are interested in applicants who are committed to engaging in teaching, research, and mentoring in diverse/inclusive settings.
Job responsibilities
Positions engage in teaching, research/creative work, and service. The percentages are 40% teaching, 40% research/creative work, and 20% service. The teaching load is two courses per semester.
