From Basel to Turin and the shores of Lake Geneva, La Becque’s late spring and summer program brings together exhibitions, performances, publications, and public events emerging from its residencies and international collaborations. Alongside these activities, a new cohort of artists, writers, musicians, and researchers is currently in residence.
Current residents include Alice Bucknell, Zoé Samudzi, Drew McDowall, Mira M. Yang, and Puer Deorum, alongside participants in several partner residencies: Mahshid Rafiei, invited in collaboration with Pro Helvetia, and Vera van de Seyp, Benjamin Fanni, and Clemens Fischer, participating through a partnership with ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne.
On July 25, La Becque will open its doors for a new session of Open Studios, offering visitors the opportunity to discover works in progress and engage with the artists and their research.
As part of Art Basel week, Kunsthalle Basel’s Wednesday Special on June 17, supported by La Becque, will bring together a series of conversations and performances across the exhibitions of Janiva Ellis and future resident Shuang Li. Highlights include a public conversation between Janiva Ellis and Kelela, a concert by Soo Joo within Shuang Li’s exhibition Alliance, and a live performance by Divide & Dissolve within Ellis’s exhibition Geneva.
Following six editions of Modern Nature, La Becque launches a new series of public programs with an inaugural event conceived in collaboration with Italian artist NZIRIA and cultural practitioners from Naples’ queer scene. Taking place on July 3 and 4, the project explores archives as living forms of transmission, considering how histories survive through bodies, voices, music, rituals, and collective practices rather than institutional preservation. Through listening sessions, conversations, and a DJ set, visitors will experience archives as materials in motion: sung, spoken, remembered, transformed, and shared.
Beyond Switzerland, La Becque continues to develop international collaborations. On June 27 and 28, future residents HMOT and Dania Shihab, together with Rosso Polare and Giada Pignotti, will present a newly commissioned durational performance in Turin as part of Spellbound, a two-day event curated by ALMARE exploring sleep, dreams, and sonic imagination. The program also includes a sleeping concert by Nkisi, developed in collaboration with Nyege Nyege.
La Becque is also pleased to participate in Tender Mesh, a transnational fellowship connecting artists and institutions across Colombia, Mexico, and Switzerland through a shared exploration of embodied knowledge, digital technologies, and contemporary forms of collaboration. Supported by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia through its Synergies program, the initiative brings together the curatorial duo MSD, Espacio Odeón in Bogotá, and La Becque, alongside artists Ana María Millán, Andrea Carrillo, and former resident alfatih.
Following releases by Stephen O’Malley, Kali Malone and Leila Bordreuil, the latest title from La Becque Editions is Midmeste, a collaborative album by former residents Judith Hamann and James Rushford, published in collaboration with Black Truffle Records. Developed during residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude and La Becque, the work brings together cello and pipe organ, incorporating recordings made on the organ of the Basilica of Valère in Sion, widely regarded as the world’s oldest playable organ.
Together, these projects reflect La Becque’s ongoing commitment to artistic research, experimentation, and international exchange across disciplines and geographies.
