“ONX.Showcase.Athens.2026: Human in the Loop” marks the launch of Onassis ONX in Greece, inaugurating the Onassis Foundation’s media arts platform with a four-day exhibition. To celebrate the breadth of the platform, the exhibition brings together ten works from the Onassis ONX and AiR ecosystem, six new work-in-progress commissions from the ONX Seeds incubation program, and four works from the Onassis Collection.
Hosted at Onassis Ready, “Human in the Loop” unfolds as a space of encounter between artistic practice and advanced technologies. The show probes the persistence of the human—in gesture, intuition, and error—within systems increasingly structured by artificial intelligence and computational infrastructures. It foregrounds the handmade and the analog as active agents within contemporary technoculture, highlighting the tactile, the spiritual, and the unsaid. Across installations, moving image, performance, and interactive environments, the works engage with the ghost in the machine, and the human in the process.
Onassis ONX is the Onassis Foundation’s global platform for art and advanced technologies. Through a deep commitment to experimental and avant-garde practices, the platform empowers creatives to explore the limits of immersion. Its primary nodes in New York and Athens provide incubation and acceleration resources for production, exhibition, and convening. These services, alongside a deep network of institutional partners, enable Onassis ONX to support a growing creative ecosystem, from the earliest stages of project development through to presentation and distribution.
The platform was started in 2020 through partnership between the Onassis Foundation and NEW INC, the NEW MUSEUM’s incubator for contemporary culture. Its initial mandate was to provide production space in Olympic Tower in mid-town Manhattan for under-resourced artists working in advanced technologies. Over the past five years, the platform has evolved to service an increasingly dynamic cohort of artists and institutional partners. To meet the needs of its growing community, ONX inaugurated two new spaces in 2026. In New York, the platform moved to Tribeca and doubled its footprint. In Athens, ONX opened a dynamic incubation, production, and presentation hub in Onassis READY. The inauguration of these new spaces marks an inflection point in ONX’s development as a new model for 21st century arts organizations. The platform’s modular infrastructure fosters innovative projects in order to engage with audiences worldwide, and support meaningful inquiry into technology, creativity, and society.
