Onassis AiR continues its support in artistic process, experimentation and collective exchange.
This September, Onassis AiR enters its eighth season with a cohort selected from more than 2,400 applications submitted through the program’s annual Open Call.
Based in Athens, Onassis AiR is the international artistic research, residency and fellowship program of the Onassis Foundation that has supported more than 250 Fellows from over 50 countries since its launch in 2019. The program’s mission is to support artistic process by providing dedicated time and space to arts professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines seeking to develop, or refine, work in progress without the pressure of completing it or presenting a final work at the end of the residency.
For 2026/27, Onassis AiR continues its engagement with crafts and material-based practices, with a particular focus on fashion and design. This season includes participants that work and experiment with textiles, garments, ceramics, and sculpture. The program's expansion at Onassis Ready allows for these approaches to be tested on a larger scale, creating connections between hands-on making, advanced technologies, design methodologies, and material research.
This year, Onassis AiR also offers a new opportunity to conduct research and develop a project in direct collaboration with the Cavafy Archive, while it continues the Theater & Dance Residencies dedicated to processes grounded in dramaturgy, direction, movement, playwriting and performance; the AiR/ONX Residencies for new media and immersive projects; and the Technical Residencies which support professionals working behind the scenes to expand their skills through involvement in real production environments.
Collaborations are important for the program as they expand the networks and contexts in which artistic practice develops. This season, Onassis AiR partners with leading European and international organizations for reciprocal residency exchanges and participates in European networks such as the European Media Art Platform Extended (EMAP), that supports artists working across digital, media, robotic, AI, and bio art.

During each residency cycle, Onassis AiR Fellows present their work at the Open Days, a two-day event shaped around their projects and practices. These public moments give Fellows the opportunity to share work in progress with the wider arts community of Athens and build connections beyond the program. Alongside the Open Days, Fellows have access to mentoring, peer-to-peer feedback, capacity-building workshops, collective activities, visits, and research trips. Together, these forms of support help sustain an active artistic community while giving each Fellow focused time to develop their own practice.
The program also serves as a point of access to the Onassis Culture ecosystem, enabling participants to explore future opportunities for production, co-production, or presentation, as well as support for the international circulation of their work.
