Postgraduate programmes

How can design engage with contemporary ecological, technological, and cultural transformations? As design increasingly operates across interconnected systems and scales, new forms of research and practice are needed to engage with their complexity. While approaching different fields, IED Torino's postgraduate programmes in Interaction Design, Mobility Design, and Social Ecological Design share an interest in relationships, infrastructures, and the ways design can operate within ongoing processes of change. Situated in Turin, a city shaped by longstanding traditions of manufacturing, design, and innovation, IED offers a learning environment grounded in experimentation, interdisciplinary exchange, and dialogue with institutions, organisations, and professional practice.

Programmes spotlight
Exploring the relationship between people, technologies, products, and services, the Master of Arts in Interaction Design investigates how emerging digital tools, artificial intelligence, connected devices, and interactive environments can be transformed into meaningful and responsible experiences. Through research-driven projects and prototyping, the programme cultivates professionals able to create human-centred and socially valuable solutions at the intersection of physical and digital worlds.

The Master’s Program in Mobility Design addresses the profound transformations shaping the way people and goods move today. Moving beyond a vehicle-centred approach, the programme examines mobility as an interconnected ecosystem of services, infrastructures, digital systems, and user experiences. Adopting a transdisciplinary perspective, participants develop strategic responses to evolving societal, environmental, and urban challenges, envisioning sustainable and responsible new ways of connecting and living for future cities and communities.

Focusing on the role of design in fostering regenerative futures, the First Level Master’s in Social Ecological Design combines critical thinking, field research, participatory practices, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The programme equips students to engage with significant ecological and societal challenges by working with local contexts and diverse forms of knowledge. Participants learn how design can contribute to long-term transformation, resilience, and collective wellbeing.

While each programme develops a distinct area of expertise, all three encourage research-led practice and critical inquiry. Learning takes place through workshops, seminars, collaborative projects, and partnerships with organisations and companies, fostering the ability to frame questions, conduct research, and translate insights into design projects.

Applications for all programmes are open until October 2026.

Facilitations and funding 
IED offers a range of facilitations and financial support opportunities for eligible students. Funding initiatives may include tuition fee reductions, scholarships, and special admissions benefits designed to support talented applicants from Italy and abroad. IED hosts a series of online and on-campus events throughout the year, offering the opportunity to meet academics and students.
