The University of Fine Arts Münster (Kunstakademie Münster) is looking for a W3-Professorship Textile Practices to start in the winter semester of 2027/28.

We are looking for an internationally recognised artist with an outstanding body of work and a significant international exhibition record, whose artistic practice demonstrates an independent and substantial engagement with textile practices and textility. We understand “textility” as an open artistic field which may encompass, amongst other things, experimental and interdisciplinary practices, as well as material, sculptural, spatial, performative, and conceptual approaches. A strong affinity with the techniques, technologies, and production processes of the textile field is expected, together with a willingness to explore and further develop them experimentally through artistic teaching. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead an artistic class, support the individual development of students, and engage with contemporary artistic questions through both teaching and practice.

The requirements for employment are set out in Section 29 KunstHG NRW (Art Colleges Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia). In addition to the general requirements under service law, prerequisites include, among others, a completed degree, usually in the arts, and outstanding artistic achievement. However, an appointment may also be made on the basis of a special aptitude for artistic work. The willingness to participate in the administration of the academy and to help shape the university is assumed. Knowledge of German is an advantage in this context.

The University of Fine Arts sees itself as an equal opportunity university and advocates diversity in its staff. Fortunately, its equality strategies have resulted in there currently being no underrepresentation as defined by the Landes-Gleichstellungsgesetz NRW and the Kunsthochschulgesetz NRW. Applications from people of all genders are therefore, of course, equally welcome. Applications from individuals with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration if they are equally qualified.

The university qualifies about half of its students in the Fine Arts degree course and half of them in teacher training programs. At the heart of this teaching is the joint studying in artistic classes and in-person colloquia. In addition to the international faculty, the University of Fine Arts Münster features excellent workshops.

We look forward to receiving your digital-only application, which we ask you to submit as a single PDF file (max. 50 Megabyte including web or video links) through our online portal by January 10, 2027.
