Studio 20 Collective is a Yerevan-based curatorial and artistic initiative dedicated to cultivating an independent, self-organized ecosystem and infrastructure for art, research, and collaborative practice. Founded in 2014 by Mary Mikaelyan and Momik Vardanyan (originally operating under the name Art Basis), the collective functions as an evolving platform investigating art, technology, production, knowledge, alternative models, structures, and spaces through public events, exhibitions, and long-term projects.
The collective combines experimental formats, residencies, and alternative institutional interventions to cultivate long-term dialogues between local and international artists. These efforts materialize through an interconnected network of physical and conceptual models: the Studio 20 art space, which hosts public events, workshops, and exhibitions; an independent library hosted within the National Gallery of Armenia; the Video Art Archive, created to preserve and make accessible moving images and the contexts surrounding them; and a community space and residency program in the Mush-2 district of Gyumri, which actively engages with the urban fabric of the neighborhood. The collective's sonic investigations take shape through the Sonic Laboratory, an experimental platform for sound and audio transmissions, operating alongside Radio Antenna, a broadcasting initiative that extends these activities into digital and auditory spheres. Concurrently, the Off-Galerie initiative functions as a temporary gallery model designed to foster a self-sufficient economy, directly supporting artists outside conventional art market structures.
Across these diverse forms, Studio 20 Collective is dedicated to creating conditions for artistic exchange, research, collective learning, experimentation, and the development of alternative artistic infrastructures.
