Khlong San Bangkok 10600
Thailand
Hours: Monday–Friday 10am–6pm
Nomad Art Residency Bangkok is a program of Warin Lab Nomad, operating in close partnership with Warin Lab Contemporary - one of Bangkok's leading contemporary art galleries with internationally recognized practice rooted in ecology, interdisciplinary inquiry, and long-term artist relationships.
The residency is housed in a repurposed garment factory on the bank of the Chao Phraya river in the Khlong San district. One of Bangkok's most historically layered communities, this district is home for centuries to Muslim, Indian, Chinese, and Thai noble families whose coexistence shaped the district's distinctive character.
Sitting directly opposite the Old Customs House where Bangkok's earliest trade with the West unfolded during the early Rattanakosin period (the kingdom founded in 1782 that established Bangkok as Thailand's capital) and sheltering temples whose murals and architectural details trace their lineage to the Ayutthaya era (the powerful Thai kingdom that flourished from the 14th to 18th centuries), Khlong San carries within it the full arc of the city's history as a place of encounter, exchange, and cultural confluence.
The building is now home to a community of over ten working local artists' studios, creating a rare environment of genuine creative exchange rather than institutional isolation.
The program offers artists, curators, writers, researchers, choreographers, and creative technologists dedicated time and space to step away from the demands of their practice and immerse themselves in one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic and rapidly evolving art scenes.
Each cycle is anchored by a published thematic research question that all residents respond to from their own disciplinary position.
The program operates on two tracks:
Lab Track: a 12 week program encompassing a stay in Bangkok and a 5 day field trip to experience the living philosophy and indigeneous knowledge of Pga K’Nyau hill tribe community in Baan Nong Tao and a city visit in Chiangmai.
Nomad Track: a 4 week program encompassing a research and working time in Bangkok
Art practitioners are selected through a rigorous application process. Both tracks participate in the same intellectual and community life of the residency.
Nomad Art Residency Bangkok is intentionally small; four to six residents per cycle. This is not a throughput program. It is built for depth, where each collaboration receives meaningful curatorial attention, where disciplines genuinely collide, and where every resident leaves with work, relationships, and ideas that bear the unmistakable trace of Bangkok.
