Join us at Bar Laika for the twelfth edition of Satellite, featuring a live performance by Further Reductions and a DJ set by Acamol.
Further Reductions is a collaboration between New York–based musicians Shawn and Katie O’Sullivan. Over the past decade, they have carved a rare space for electronic music that looks past the binary of experimental and dance music.
Initially, they worked with vintage electronics to create an updated sonic exploration given technological limitations, broadly under the guise of “Minimal Synth.” In 2014, Woodwork, their first full length release, appeared on Veronica Vasicka’s Minimal Wave/Cititrax imprint. This album expanded their aesthetic aims by incorporating ideas from their live hardware sets, forming a loose, meditative quality grounded in spaced-out beats with rich flourishes of hypnotic melody and vocals.
Their 2017 record, Disparate Elements, released on Knekelhuis, embodies an offbeat and playful distillation of various dance music genres that they’ve been drawn to in their DJ sets.
Outside their work together, Shawn has been prolific with releases as 400ppm and Vapauteen on labels such as Avian and L.I.E.S, and works with Beau Wanzer as Civil Duty and Garum. Katie has been producing and DJing under her solo moniker, Rose E. Kross, and as part of the duo ppG with 51717/Lili Schulder.
Acamol (Basel Abbas) is an a-disciplinary artist based between Brooklyn and Palestine that has appeared as many different figures elsewhere. His work includes sound, text, installation, and performance practices. He co-founded the Ramallah Underground collective, and is part of the performance group Tashweesh together with Ruanne Abou-Rahme and Muqata’a.
His DJ sets are centered around beat driven subaltern sounds.
Satellite is a monthly experimental music series curated by Sanna Almajedi.
