Join the editors of e-flux journal on Tuesday, June 20 at 7pm for the launch of our summer issue. The evening will feature a screening and reading of Akosua Adoma Owusu’s Reluctantly Queer (2016, 8 minutes), the script of which appears in e-flux journal issue #137.

Owusu’s epistolary short film invites us into the unsettling life of a young Ghanaian man struggling to reconcile his love for his mother with his same-sex desire amid the increased tensions incited by anti-LGBTQI politics in Ghana. Focused on a letter that is ultimately filled with hesitation and uncertainty, Reluctantly Queer both disrobes and questions what it means to be queer for this man in this time and space.

After the screening, Owusu will be in conversation with e-flux journal contributing editor Serubiri Moses.

e-flux journal issue #137 (June 2023) features contributions by Yuk Hui, Franco “Bifo” Berardi, Mary Walling Blackburn, Boris Groys, Akosua Adoma Owusu, Kwame Edwin Otu, Olga Rodríguez-Ulloa, Mijail Mitrovic, Otavio Leonidio, Fábio Zuker. Read them here.
