A forum for short-form writing
Dear friends,
We’re delighted to announce a new publishing platform: e-flux Notes, a forum for short-form writing on the e-flux website. e-flux Notes will feature thoughtful reflections, polemical interventions, and topical analysis. It’s a successor to our long-running platform e-flux Conversations, which will remain online as an archive.
New today on e-flux Notes is an open letter from 27N, a group of independent Cuban artists, writers, and filmmakers. The letter calls for the resignation of Cuba’s minister of culture, Alpidio Alonso, for his involvement in a physical attack against peaceful demonstrators one year ago today. The incident highlighted the repression faced by Cuban artists who do not echo government propaganda. The open letter reads in part:
“Cuban government representatives are supposed to be held to high standards of conduct and should be able to engage in reasonable discussion without resorting to violence; but that was not how Alpidio Alonso and other cultural functionaries behaved. 27N has been petitioning the government demanding Alonso’s removal throughout the entire year, to no avail.”
Visit e-flux Notes to read the full letter.
Warmly,
e-flux
