Commemorating the fifth anniversary of the FAARA Residency, Fundación Ama Amoedo announces the jury and the selected artists in the program, which has consolidated as a reference for artistic research and production in Latin America.
Based in the emblematic Casa Neptuna in José Ignacio (Uruguay), FAARA celebrates this special edition by bringing together six distinguished artists from the region's contemporary art scene: Carlos Amorales (Mexico), Patricia Belli (Nicaragua), Jonathas de Andrade (Brazil), Engel Leonardo (Dominican Republic), Delcy Morelos (Colombia) and Alejandra Seeber (Argentina).
The 2026 Jury was composed by Pablo León de la Barra (Curator for Latin America, Guggenheim Museum), Inés Katzenstein (Curator of Latin American Art and Director of the Cisneros Institute, MoMA, New York), and Manuel Segade (Director of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid).
In a joint statement, the jury emphasized: “Our selection seeks to honor the careers that have made a decisive contribution to expanding the frontiers of contemporary art in Latin America.”
Curator Inés Katzenstein added: “It was a real pleasure to work with my fellow curators in selecting an extraordinary group of Latin American artists for the FAARA Residency. We are confident that they will benefit from and enjoy the opportunity that a residency like this offers, which far from distractions, allows them to put their commitments on hold and focus on themselves alongside another artist.’ Pablo León de la Barra pointed out: ‘Five years after its creation, FAARA has established itself as a space that brings together emotions, knowledge and communities through art. This selection celebrates the aesthetic and political diversity of thoughts and geographies that make up Latin America, but also recognises the sustained work of artists who have paved the way for others.’ Finally, Manuel Segade highlighted: ‘This commemorative edition allowed us to look at the recent history of Latin American practices from the perspective of their most consistent trajectories. The selected artists are key figures in the redefinition of contemporary languages in the region.”
About the Residency
FAARA has established itself as a strategic space for the development of Latin American contemporary art, offering artists from Latin America and its global extensions, an environment for research, production and critical reflection. During its five-year history, the residency has welcomed thirty artists, who, selected by a jury of international curators, participate in six-week cycles at Casa Neptuna, sharing studio space and accommodation with another artist. FAARA covers travel and accommodation expenses and awards a grant at the end of the residency, ensuring that the experience focuses on creation and professional development. The program combines curatorial support with a personalized agenda tailored to each resident's research and practice.
