The Low Residency Master of Applied Artsis designed for practicing artists and working professionals who want to stay based in their home communities, while engaging in a stimulating course of learning alongside their professional commitments. The Low Residency model is structured around 3 consecutive summer residency periods in Vancouver, with interactive online study periods between residencies. The requirements and experience of the Low Residency MAA are equivalent to the on-campus program; the difference is in the mode, duration, and flexible rhythm of delivery.
The program supports rigorous practice-based creative research through expert faculty instruction, high-level supervision of independent thesis research, and an especially robust visiting speaker series that draws on Vancouver’s prominence as a major international centre for contemporary art.
Emily Carr University is a global leader in dedicated research for studio-based art, design, and media. Our graduate degree programs merge research, critical theory and contemporary studio practice in an interdisciplinary environment. We are committed to creating dynamic opportunities for graduate students through collaborative partnerships, industry alliances and practice-based research opportunities. We invite you to examine and explore as artists, designers and media-makers and to lead and engage the cultural and creative industries.
In September 2017, Emily Carr will be moving to its landmark new campus, a state-of-the-art purpose-built space designed to stand for creative learning in the 21st century.
