The position of Lecturer/Printmaker in the Painting/Printmaking Department of the Yale School of Art is initially a one-year appointment, eligible for renewal.

The School seeks a working artist with a significant exhibition record and a minimum of three years college level teaching experience, including experience in teaching drawing and printmaking. An active, dynamic art practice, and strong organizational skills are also required. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Lecturers in the department at the Yale School of Art are involved in both the undergraduate and graduate components of the department. In addition, the Lecturer/Printmaker will assume primary responsibility for the management of a very active print studio.

The Lecturer will oversee all administrative aspects (including maintenance, supplies, and upgrades) of a print studio within a department of 43 graduate painting/printmaking students. The department is comprised of seven full-time and several part-time visiting faculty members. The Lecturer will perform departmental service including admissions and curriculum development, conduct individual critiques with graduate students and attend final reviews and thesis panels.

Undergraduate duties include teaching courses, serving as a senior advisor to art majors, and attending sophomore and senior reviews. The Lecturer/Printmaker teaches three undergraduate courses and one graduate course each year (2/2).

Undergraduate and graduate students alike are actively engaged in using traditional printmaking methods as they are in creating evolving forms of prints and multiples. We seek an applicant with expertise in digital media, an interest in developing cross-disciplinary curriculum, and a broad knowledge of contemporary art. The department offers a full complement of analog printmaking techniques (etching, relief, silkscreen, lithography). The candidate will be expected to continue their creative and professional activities while teaching in a rigorous academic environment within the School of Art and University.

Yale University is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and considers applicants for employment without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual’s sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, or national or ethnic origin; nor does Yale discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Please send as PDF’s a brief one page cover letter, resume with relevant professional and teaching experience, website or weblink to images of work (at least 20), names and contact information of three references, sample syllabi for one printmaking course and one drawing course to [email protected] and copy [email protected] under subject heading “Printmaker Position” by December 15, 2016 at 5pm. We would appreciate if you did not send any additional materials at this time.
