The Art of Stillness

Explore what internationally renowned writer, thinker and residency faculty Pico Iyer calls “the art of stillness.” This interdisciplinary residency provides writers, visual artists, dancers and musicians the opportunity to work with expert faculty whose work explores stillness and its relationship to the creative process, while also providing the time to slow down, reclaim mind space and hone their practice. Faculty include Diane Borsato, Pico Iyer, and Richard Reed Parry.

The Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) program in Visual + Digital Arts provides time and space for artists, curators, and arts professionals to create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work.
In addition to private studio space and facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers and have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances by world-renowned visiting artists, all within the Centre’s spectacular mountain setting. Guest faculty Amish Morrell, editor of C Magazine, will be on hand to hold studio visits and discuss your practice, and share his expertise as part of Visual Arts Lecture Series. Visual + Digital Arts Indigenous Residency
November 7–December 9

Indigenous artists, curators, and cultural practitioners are invited to come together, create new work, and discuss topics pertinent to their culture and contemporary art practice.
During this five-week residency, participants will be able to focus on their work with dedicated studio time, as well, have the opportunity to meet with local Elders, engage with faculty and visiting guest artists, and tap into the community of knowledge of their peers around contemporary Indigenous art practice.
Note: enrollment to this program is limited to individuals of Indigenous descent (status, non-status, Métis or Inuit in Canada and Indigenous peoples from around the world).
Artists accepted to the program will be eligible for up to 100% scholarship. See program page for details.

Visual + Digital Arts programs at The Banff Centre offer opportunities for artists to engage with world-renowned faculty and peers, and gain new insights into the development of their work.
