The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA) is pleased to host Hank Willis Thomas‘s talk on April 12 at 6:30pm in alliance with a unique partnership between development firm Samuels & Associates, arts organization GT Public, and The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. They are bringing the dynamic contemporary public art installation, In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth), to Boston. The portable, inflatable booth invites members of the public to complete the statement “The truth is…” from their own perspectives.
Initiated in 2011, The Truth Booth is a multi-year collaboration between artists Hank Willis Thomas, Ryan Alexiev, Jim Ricks, and Will Sylvester of the Cause Collective. The Truth Booth is a thought-provoking participatory experience that seeks to capture our definitions, confessions, and thoughts on “The Truth,” adding to a diverse portrait of people around the world. The recorded statements contribute to a growing global archive of collective social commentary.
The Truth Booth will be in Boston April 11–12, 2016 at the Verb Hotel and April 13–15 on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
Hank Willis Thomas is a photo-conceptual artist working primarily with themes related to identity, history and popular culture. He has exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad at institutions such as the Cleveland Art Museum, Ohio; the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; the Istanbul Biennial; and Galerie Michel Rein, Paris, among others. He is also a recipient of the New Media Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography for his transmedia project, Question Bridge: Black Males. Recent notable exhibitions include Repetition and Difference at the Jewish Museum, New York; Public Art Fund’s ImageObjects in City Hall Park, New York; and Primary Sources at the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. He was recently appointed to the Public Design Commission for the City of New York. Thomas is represented by Jack Shainman Gallery in New York and Goodman Gallery in South Africa.
