SPACEBODIES is an exhibition of time-based and performance work on expanded definitions of “space” and its affective (im)materiality.
Curated by Andrea Spaziani, a choreographer, performer and Transart MFA candidate based in Toronto. Spaziani is chasing perception (receiving) and projection (sending) in her studies of the communicative folds of performance events, and how they are made.

Artist talk by Shark Roth: “Missing The Megafauna: Rewilding the Canon”
Painter and Transart Alumnus Shark Roth addresses the idea that as climate impacts deliver us to a novel global frontier, the role of artist as inventor, custodian and presenter of story takes on a great charge. The Transart Triennale theme serves as a lens to consider internal rewilding as eco-system restoration.

Artist talk by Jon Cattapan: “There but not there. The space between soldier and artist”
Jon Cattapan is an extensively exhibited visual artist who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. In 2008 he took up a commission through the Australian War Memorial to become Australia’s 63rd Official war artist and was deployed to Timor Leste.

W.I.O. is an informalinsider-guidedwalking tour of New York City and Brooklyn music venues, artist studios, and other underground spaces. Guided by multi-media artist, experimental musician and Transart alumnus Niko Solorio. Originally from LA, Solorio has performed and exhibited his work both in the US and abroad including shows at the Grand Hotel Londres (Istanbul); Kunstverein Hannover (Hannover); Redcat (Los Angeles); Madam Luxembourg (Luxembourg); Cercel Blan (Berlin) & MoMA PS1 (New York).
Groups will be small, intimate, limited (rsvp required here).

The MFA Creative Practice is a student-centered, project oriented program which fosters independent thinking, risk-taking and the creation of an informed and sustainable art praxis. The program is tailored to suit the needs of working artists with summer residencies in Berlin, winter residencies in New York and one-on-one advisement during the academic year, wherever students work and live. Students are free to pursue work in any art-related genre and to create their own course of study, working independently and with the support of self-chosen studio and research advisors. Short periods of intensive residency permit students to continue with their professional work and keep a balanced personal life while participating in the program. The PhD Creative Practice is a low-residency three year program and only offered for creative research.
Transart Institute
Transart grew out of a desire to go beyond established institutional education where pre-formed and pre-formatted knowledge is passed on to all students in the same way. Transart works the other way around: a plethora of models and diverse input in a multi-perspective environment form a truly student-driven program. The Institute is also a platform for faculty to expand their teaching praxis by making space for creativity and experimentation. Beyond its educational objectives, Transart is engaged in building an international community in support of students, alumni, faculty and their artistic and academic practices.
