Directed by Christophe Coppens.
The Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam will launch a new temporary Master’s programme in September 2015 named Fashion Matters. The course will be directed by LA-based, Belgian-born artist Christophe Coppens. Innovation—in technology, material use and craftsmanship—is at the cornerstone of this course. This is why students will collaborate closely with organisations where innovation and experiment are central, such as G-Star, Gerrit Rietveld Academie, TextielLab, Wageningen University and Fashion Council NL.
About the course
The course challenges students to rethink the current fast-paced and at times wasteful fashion model. In two years, the path of the student will go from in-depth research and experimentation, to development and production. The goal of this Master’s is to give students a clear view of their options.
The programme will include:
– Lectures by leading figures from the fashion world
– Case studies
– Critical thinking and writing
– Textile workshops
– Technology workshops
– Sustainability research
– Individual guidance towards research project
– The financial side of fashion: commercial and operational strategies
– Designer visits
Student profile
Fashion Matters is looking for ambitious and independently working designers and artists. A background in fashion or expertise in affiliated fields is required. We are looking for designers who want to research and re-define their possible role in the fashion world today, based on previous studies or first experiences in the field. What do you stand for? How will you make a difference? How do you see the future of fashion? And how will you be part of it?
