Together with the webjournal OnCurating.org, the Post-Graduate programme in Curating, ZHdK is currently programming talks, exhibitions, and film screenings at the Gasthaus zum Bären/Museum Bärengasse. We also installed an open curating studio at this renowned exhibition venue. We furthermore collaborate with the Think Tank WIRE, Connecting Spaces Hong Kong – Zürich and international artists.
In 2014 we will programme Gasthaus zum Baeren/Museum Bärengasse under the title Curating your Context. It will be executed by a young group of curators with international backgrounds. They act as a temporary curatorial group and will look into current issues in contemporary contextual curatorship during the year.
The premises of the Museum Bärengasse will be used as a platform for discussion and exhibition rooms as well as curatorial studios. With different activities, formats and a series of interdisciplinary co-operations, Curating your Context will create a room in the middle of the financial district that is at the same time inviting and experimental, and that offers an opportunity to young curators to test and present new formats of exhibition and communication.
The Post-Graduate programme in Curating offers different study opportunities.
– CAS skills areas
The Post-Graduate certificate (CAS) is a one-year, part-time course providing participants with key qualifications in all areas of curatorial practice: research, conception, organization and communication, as well as basic theoretical knowledge.
– MAS skills areas
The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) is a two-year, part-time study programme culminating in an advanced qualification. It guides participants through an in-depth enquiry into the key areas of curatorial practice and relevant theory. Students have the opportunity to develop and situate their own curatorial projects and access cultural networks. The programme concludes with a major project and written dissertation. Supervision of projects will be provided by Dr. Dorothee Richter, head of MAS Curating.
Target group
The program is designed for persons working in art, culture, and the media, graduates of art academies and universities of applied sciences in the disciplines of art, architecture, interior architecture, photography, interior decoration, installation, design, theatre, scenography, and music, as well as university graduates in the fields of art history, cultural studies, or literary studies. The program is also suitable for candidates who have acquired certain curatorial skills through practical experience. We are an international group, knowledge of German is dispensable, the language of all lectures is English.
