MFA/MDes in Contextualised Practice
Gray’s School of Art is launching a new Master’s course this year which will offer you the chance to practice art and design in a context and organisation of your choosing.
The Masters of Fine Art (MFA) or Design (MDes) in Contextualised Practice offers you two options, one which is studio-based, the other tailored towards a collaborative programme working with local and regional external partners in education, health, social enterprise and arts.
The studio practice pathway allows you to focus on the development of a personal contextualised practice-based programme and course of study that is individually tailored, in conjunction with academic staff at Gray’s.
The contextual practice pathway, meanwhile, offers the unique opportunity to develop professional skills and research needs through a structured and mentored collaboration with an organisation related to a particular area of interest.
Students will be based out with the art school for the majority of the course, working on real-life briefs and live research projects, while developing relationships and networking opportunities in conjunction with mentors at Gray’s and host organisations.
By studying for a Master’s in art and design at Gray’s School of Art you will also have the opportunity to exploit the school’s location in the northeast of Scotland. This unique position enables students to engage with both city and rural communities, as well as draw inspiration from the diverse and spectacular landscapes right on your doorstep.
There are part-time or full-time study options available for the course and students will need to attend at Gray’s School of Art on a regular basis for lectures, seminars and workshop sessions.

All the time, developing valuable skills, knowledge and experience to pursue your own professional development as a creative practitioner.
