School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents the MFA Computer Art Open Studios 2013, presenting a broad range of multidisciplinary projects from our current students. The event will be open to the public on December 12 through December 13 at the MFA Computer Art Studio, 133-141 West 21st Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues, 12th floor, New York City.
The creative work encompasses a wide range of media including video, animation, motion graphics, installations and physical computing. “As digital art evolves, the line between it and contemporary art is disappearing. We see it simply as art using digital techniques to enhance creativity,” states department chair Bruce Wands.
The MFA Computer Art Studio is shared among students interested in building interactive, multidisciplinary and installation art projects, as well as those working in stop-motion animation and motion graphics. The studio space includes a digital design and fabrication workshop, a traditional woodshop and an electronics classroom for students to build their projects. The space is modular and ever changing in order to accommodate the wide range of creative work made by the students of the MFA Computer Art Department.
The MFA Computer Art Department emphasizes creative experimentation and a multidisciplinary approach to making art with computers and emerging technologies. Dedicated to producing digital artists of the highest caliber, the department guides each student in the development of a personal artistic style in a course of study that is individually tailored to meet his or her needs. Students come from around the world to study in this two-year, 60-credit MFA degree program, which has distinguished itself with seven Student Academy Awards.
