Los Angeles, CA 90089
Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Design, full-time tenure-track or tenured
The Roski School of Fine Arts at The University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track appointment in Design, open rank. The ideal candidate will hold an MFA or Ph.D. in Design, or their equivalent, and exhibit a broad knowledge of the field’s multiple tracks, including design theory, dimensional design, environmental and spatial design, communications design, typography and graphic design, design in social innovation, and all other related practices. For appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, candidates will also have demonstrated success as a department, division or school administrator.
All scholarly and practice specializations will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in dimensional design theory and its applied technologies, and an ability to provide leadership within the school’s burgeoning 3-D design track. In addition to having a broad awareness of and active presence in the design field, the candidate must be a team player who will mentor students and peers, and provide vision for the program within the strategic goals of this top-tier research university. The candidate should also be interested in forging relationships and building cross-disciplinary programs with other schools and departments at USC, including the schools of Architecture, Cinematic Arts, and Engineering.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A senior appointment will also carry the expectation of administrative leadership for the program as the school expands its Design offerings, and moves toward creation and implementation of graduate programming. Undergraduate students in the Design area currently include candidates for the Roski School’s BA and BFA degrees, a large population of minors, and also, beginning in fall 2014, majors of the USC Iovine and Young Academy.

Full-time tenured associate professor or Full Professor of Critical Studies and Director of Critical Studies
The Roski School of Fine Arts at The University of Southern California seeks a scholar in the practice and teaching of theoretical, historical, and scholarly aspects of the visual arts. The successful candidate will join a faculty comprised in large part of practicing artists and designers, as well as curators and scholars. We invite applications, recommendations, and nominations for a full-time tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor of Critical Studies.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in art history or a related field. The ideal candidate will have an international reputation as a scholar, with commensurate peer-reviewed publications, speaking invitations and teaching in the field of modern and contemporary art. The Roski School particularly welcomes demonstrated scholarship in non-western practices, and more than one area of scholarly expertise. Further, candidates should have a minimum of five years full-time teaching experience within a college or university setting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and have hands-on experience with curricular and administrative duties.
The position will entail teaching and leadership roles in critical studies at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The ideal candidate is a team player who understands and is committed to academic program development as well as peer and student mentoring. Candidates with advanced academic standing should expect, if hired, to fulfill administrative leadership in the Roski School and service to the University. While the position is 100% within the Roski School, preference will be shown to candidates who demonstrate the ability to forge ties with other USC academic units and forward the interdisciplinary goals and strategic vision of this research University. All tenured and tenure-track positions at USC carry expectations of service to the Roski School and to the University.
