Now accepting applications for Fall 2014, the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art & Design’s two-year M.F.A. program is one of the most encompassing interdisciplinary programs in the country. Designed for artists whose studio practice actively engages fields of knowledge beyond the cultures of art and design, students conduct creative cross-disciplinary work within a top research university.
Stamps’ full-time faculty of internationally recognized artists and scholars combine efforts with researchers and practitioners from across the university to foster an environment where each student’s individual perspectives and unique talents can develop and flourish.
MFA candidates exhibit, curate, teach, perform, network, investigate, explore, present, produce, innovate, and collaborate with fields as varied as nanotechnology and disability studies, climatology and creative writing. They also conduct a funded, self-directed international study experience, have weekly studio visits with Stamps Visiting Speakers art-design.umich.edu/stamps, and collaborate with Witt Artists in Residence art-design.umich.edu/witt.
Understanding that art is a dynamic and fundamental force in contemporary culture, the Stamps School is committed to helping each student shape a critically informed, research-intensive, technically expansive, socially engaged, and culturally impactful creative practice.
Competitive scholarships for this program include tuition waivers, and graduate student Instructor and research opportunities, as well as funding for international travel and stipends for studio production.
The application deadline is January 1, 2014
