FAAP: Visual Arts course, exhibition and artists’ residency
Research on Visual Poetics and FAAP´s Visual Arts course achievements: investigation, exhibit and artists’ residency.
In the last days of June, an amazing array of exploration in the visual arts field will be displayed in different locations and at different times to the public in general, but particularly to those interested in the work of young artists who now become professionals. The work of international artists in residence at FAAP’s Lutetia Building will also be in display: After a period of immersion in the city of São Paulo, they will open their studios and living space to offer visitors a closer look at their creative processes and artistic development, sharing the results of their exchanges and experiences.
Thus, with the presentation of the outcome of the research on visual poetics, materialized in the graduation works of FAAP´s students enrolled in the Visual Arts course, the semester will close with an exhibit of young artists from both FAAP´s school and the open studio of the artists in residence.
Visual Arts Course – FAAP
Created in the 1950s, FAAP’s Visual Arts course—an undisputed reference in the area—has, over the years, generated a remarkable pool of professionals that well represent Brazil´s achievements in the visual arts arena, from theorists to artists who are either alumni or faculty members. Several generations of artists and art-related professionals have been part of FAAP’s journey, such as Nelson Leirner, Regina Silveira, Julio Plaza, Carmela Gross and Walter Zanini in the 1970s; Leda Catunda, Dora Longo Bahia, Geórgia Kyriakakis and Regina Johas in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently, the course offers high-quality training to visual arts professionals, ranging from artists to researchers, as well as leading figures in different positions of the universe of the arts. Over the last decades, as it affirmed itself as a reference for research and artistic production, the school became a beacon in the Brazilian and international contemporary art scene.

Equivocábulos
On June 29 ends the Equivocabulos exhibit held at the Museum of Brazilian Art (MAB-Centro), located in the Lutetia Building owned by FAAP. The exhibit features paintings, photographs, objects, drawings and video projections from eleven 2012 graduates from FAAP’s School of Fine Arts: Alessandra Falbo, Clara Alves, Cristiana Bei, Daniel de Paula, Deborah Santiago Guimarães, Estela Miazzi, Gabriel Torggler Silva, Janaina Wagner, Julia Armentano, Marcus Vinicius and Serena Labate.
With works especially created for the exhibition space, the artists had the chance to display the skills they acquired during their years of study and development, thus setting off in their professional paths. The artists’ creations reveal peculiar research systems, coherent with their individual development and represented by the mixing and fusion of different media, conjugated with an extensive research reaching across several fields of knowledge.
Under the curatorship of Professor Marcos Moraes, coordinator of the FAAP Visual Arts course, the exhibit is the result of the work developed at the school of Fine Arts, and based on the considerations that originated during the conclusion and final assessment of the course. Besides presenting the artists’ work to the public, the show aims at giving them the opportunity to experience each one of the development stages in this kind of circuit. The students go through all the necessary steps before the exhibit: getting acquainted with the physical space of the exhibition, the selection of works, the elaboration of a museographic project, the production involved in setting up the work, not to mention all other aspects required when turning a project into an actual work of art in the context of an exhibit.
Open Studio
In parallel with the closing of the exhibit, on June 29, the Open Studio will take place. During this event, the public will meet the artists in residence at FAAP´s Lutetia Building and get acquainted with the projects they have been developing in São Paulo, their technical experimentations and their perception and interaction with the city.

Presentation of graduation works of FAAP´s Visual Arts course
From June 25 to 28, on FAAP’s main campus, the semester´s activities will close with the public presentation of the work its graduating students developed in visual poetics.
Along with the works in display in the Corredor da Gravura (Building #1), the public will be allowed to follow the examination boards taking place during this period at the school (from 8am to 1pm), where each of the young artists will submit the result of their research, and will debate with advisors, art professors, as well as artists and professionals of the field especially invited to be part of the boards.
