The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts invites applications for a Professorship at the School of Media Art, beginning October 2013. The School of Media Art is committed to teaching, artistic development, and research related to artistic practices in the following genres: film, video, audio, digital media, performance, interactivity and live art practice. Expertise in one or more of these areas is a requirement. The ability to advise in the broad development of emerging genres of contemporary art within the Academy is highly desirable.

Through teaching, as well as through artistic practice and research, the professor of the department is expected to raise the profile of one or several of the areas mentioned, in order that the Schools of Visual Arts can continue to contribute to the development of media art in Denmark, and internationally. As such, communication skills in both Danish and English are considered valuable.

As a professor at one of the seven departments, he or she will be responsible for the completion of the student’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) study programme and implementing the student’s three-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) study programme, just as he or she will be responsible for an annual budget to organize the practical and theoretical teaching. The daily work of the professor is conducted in close cooperation with the rest of the professor group, the technical and administrative staff, teachers at the BFA study programme, the group of laboratory lecturers, the Department of Theory and Communication and the management of the Schools of Visual Arts.

The appointee must be a visual artist with a significant artistic production within contemporary media art. It is a condition of appointment that the applicant is on a recognized high level within contemporary art and has a marked exhibition profile.

Applicants are presumed to be able to: 1) create an overall study situation for the school, including planning a study programme that draws on new knowledge and relevant theory in the development of a contemporary artistic practice; 2) in an original way, lay down a framework of a dynamic art education taking its point of departure in the students’ artistic work, including supervising the students and being responsible for their final examinations; 3) perform the artistic production and research attached to the position; and 4) commit themselves to continuous professional development of the institution in close cooperation with the rector/principal and the rest of the academic staff.

Documentation of theoretical knowledge of the subject field and practical experience with art education on a high level is a prerequisite of appointment.

The application must contain a satisfactory account of:
–the ideas behind the applicant’s own artistic practice and the principal lines of the applicant’s artistic production, among other things, seen in the light of the contemporary art scene
–the applicant’s ideas and visions of the education and its planning, including how the applicant’s artistic practice and the education can have a stimulating effect on each other
–the applicant’s pedagogical qualifications

A CV and a list of documentation, if any, must be enclosed. Documentation may take the form of photos/slides of own works/projects, videos, articles, publications etc.

The position is to be filled for a fixed term of up to six years. Appointment is on a group contract basis unless the appointee is already employed as a public servant in Denmark. The professorship is a Grade 37 position and the professor is paid a pensionable basic salary of 527,889 DKK per year. The professor is granted a pensionable fixed-term employment bonus to be determined through negotiations between the Schools of Visual Arts and the legitimate negotiating organization of the appointee. An individual bonus may be agreed on. The amount of individual bonuses and the terms of pension entitlement are established by agreement according to Danish legislation on fixed-term employment, consideration being had to the appointee’s possible status of public servant employee.

Appointment is according to Government Order No 1208 on the appointment of artistic/scientific staff at certain institutions of higher education under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, as of October 12, 2010.

Professors attend to the administrative work of their school and participate in the work of both councils and committees as well as perform administrative duties in accordance with Government Order No 907 given by the Ministry of Culture as of September 6, 2012.

Application must be made to the Rector and sent to: The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Visual Arts, Kongens Nytorv 1, 1050 Copenhagen K, Denmark, where it must be received no later than May 1, 2013.

The Schools of Visual Arts strives for gender balance in the faculty group and invites all applicants irrespective of their age, sex, race, religion, or ethnic group.

Attention is drawn to the fact that the application’s enclosures are expected to be collected; alternatively they will be returned by ordinary mail.

For further particulars, please contact Rector Mikkel Bogh, T 0045 33 74 46 01, or email [email protected].
