The ifs internationale filmschule köln is currently seeking to appoint a professor for Directing for Cinema, Television, and New Media (Ref. No. ifs76) for the program’s Directing and Acting Department.
The position offers a full professorship (18 credit hours) in employment under a private law contract following the German “W-Grade” category W2 BBesO and is limited to three years.
The ifs is seeking a candidate with an outstanding director personality who can combine artistic and practical experience in both fiction and documentary with an openness to experimental forms and artistic innovations. The candidate must possess the ability for theoretical reflection as well as the willingness to prepare students for future forms of audiovisual design. In addition, the candidate is also required to possess excellent artistic achievement, experience in teaching and supervising artistic and creative processes, and the willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with students and professors from the Screenwriting, Creative Producing, Director of Photography, and Digital Film Arts programs.
The main tasks and responsibilities are:
- Group-oriented teaching as well as artistic and practical individual support
- Supervising students with developing directing concepts and staging screenplays as well as the interdisciplinary collaboration in a team with students of other programs
- Promoting the students’ personal skills and artistic development as well as supporting artistic innovation based on the aesthetic and film historical, media studies, and social sciences knowledge to be acquired during their studies
- Enabling students to realize their artistic visions, beyond the implementation of screenplays, in a film project together with a team
- Academic self-administration, committee work
