The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a Museum Educator & Coordinator of Public Programs for the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. Founded in 1881, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum is a nationally accredited university art museum with significant holdings of international modern and contemporary art.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing academic and public educational programs for the Museum with the goals of integrating the collections and exhibitions into Sam Fox School and University curriculum, enhancing educational use of the Museum, developing the Museum’s audience and community profile. The successful candidate will bring a proven interest in teaching visual literacy and critical thinking skills, especially in relation to modern and contemporary art. He or she will also build existing programs and implement new ones, pursue active relationships within the field of museum education, and play a key role in developing and achieving institutional goals. The position reports to the Museum director & chief curator.
Select requirements
• M.A. in Art History or related field, or equivalent experience
• Four years of program development and three years teaching in a museum setting
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal, supervisory, and administrative skills; and public speaking and donor relations skills
• Ability to collaborate with and supervise a range of student, staff, and academic professionals
