Washington University in St. Louis invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the College & Graduate School of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. The dean will be a tenured full professor in Art, hold the Jane Reuter Hitzeman and Herbert F. Hitzeman, Jr. Professorship and will report to the dean of the Sam Fox School.

We seek a creative leader who is engaged in contemporary practice and committed to addressing critical issues in the fields of art and design. The dean is expected to build on the success of the College & Graduate School of Art and lead significant advancements in a new curriculum and development of innovative programs that will attract and best prepare students for the challenges of art and design practice in the 21st century. The dean will be part of a collaborative team of academic leaders in the Sam Fox School, including the dean of Architecture and the director of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. Applicants should hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution and qualify for an appointment as full professor with tenure.

The appointment begins July 1, 2009 and is for a five-year, potentially renewable term.

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in
St. Louis is a unique collaboration in architecture, art and design education, dedicated to excellence in learning, creative activity, research and exhibition.

The College of Art offers the B.F.A. degree in Communication Design, Digital Imaging & Photography, Fashion Design, Painting, Printmaking/Drawing and Sculpture. The Graduate School of Art offers the M.F.A degree in Visual Arts. Enrollment includes approximately 370 undergraduate and 45 graduate students with 45 faculty members. The College is a founding member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
