nkd — nordic artists’ centre in dale is one of Scandinavia’s leading contemporary art venues specializing in residencies and related activities. The centre is located in a beautiful natural setting on the west coast of Norway 3 hours north from Bergen. nkd receives funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church affairs.
The programme aims to encourage international contacts for artists and focuses on visual culture including design and architecture, locally rooted practice and Nordic as well as international processes.
The centre consists of 8 buildings and is specially designed to provide for world beating accommodations and working space for the artists. One of the five studios is reserved for international artists from outside of the Nordic region. The selected individuals will receive a monthly stipend & material allowance and a travel grant.
Facilities
The centre has five separate houses of various sizes and five individual studios (50 m sq) as well as a common workshop specially equipped for woodwork. Guest artists also have access to limited administrative support and access to office equipment (photocopier, fax, computers for email and internet) available upon request. Wireless Internet access is provided for artists throughout the workshop- and studio building.
Applying
Applications are assessed on the basis of a specific proposal and the quality of work and experience. Proposals in all three programs should include a plan for the use of the studio over the three-six month period (4-6 weeks for groups and researchers).
REGULAR PROGRAM 2009 – open application for residencies in visual cultural practices for artists, designers and architects (14-16 individuals will be selected)
PROGRAM FOR GROUPS 2009 – residencies for groups presenting innovative projects experimenting with visual culture, design and architecture (2 groups will be selected)
RESEARCH PROGRAM 2009 – residencies for researchers – theorists, writers, curators – focusing on visual culture including design and architecture (2 individuals selected)

– A short statement of artistic concerns (max 200 words)
– Expression of interest & proposal for the residency at nkd (max 200 words)
– Up to 8, low-resolution images of recent work (CD/Prints/Slides) fully captioned and/or
– DVD (3-5 min sound or video) fully captioned and/or
– Link to a web site and/or
– Publication
Selection
All applications will be placed before an international selection panel and an independent external adjudicator. The artist selected for the residency will be reasonably fluent in English.
The closing date for receipt of applications is Tuesday 20th May 2008.
Notification date is approximately three months from the application deadline.

nkd is looking for a residency-coordinator
Duties include office work, responsibility for the residency-program, assistance in connection with workshops and projects and public relations. We are looking for a person who is willing to work both independently and as a member of a team in a 75 percent position. Artists and art enthusiasts are welcome to apply. Good reading and writing skills in English and one Scandinavian language
are required.
