Many of the best art schools and university art departments in the US are located in Southern California and specifically in the Los Angeles area. LA is a hotbed for exciting and challenging new art, and the community of artist emerging from these programs will join the growing Los Angeles community of artists

MFA students from California State University, Long Beach begin the 2007 academic year by presenting the Greater LA MFA (GLAMFA) exhibition–one of the largest student conceived and organized arts events in the CSULB Art Department and Southern California history. GLAMFA features the best graduate work from schools throughout the greater Los Angeles area and beyond. This diverse community includes 55 artists and collaboratives from 13 different programs Southern California programs.

GLAMFA, unlike other large MFA exhibitions that are often more like art fairs or institutional branding schemes, is strictly curated and focuses on quality of work and not quantity of material presented. CSULB MFA students go to great lengths to make GLAMFA, now in its third year, a reflection of the high quality of art being made in Southern California.

CSULB students do not curate themselves into GLAMFA; however, in conjunction with the opening reception, CSULB MFA students will open their studios to the public.

GLAMFA will occupy all five of the CSULB art department galleries and several alternate spaces throughout the department, It will feature over 120 works in a variety of mediums, from painting and photography to sculpture to new media, sound installation and performance.
