THE SUMMER INSTITUTE
San Francisco Art Institute announces the Summer Institute. Under the direction of Dean of Academic Affairs Okwui Enwezor, Dean of Graduate Studies Renée Green, Summer MFA Director Pegan Brooke, and Director of Community Programs Erez Golan, the Summer Institute is an extensive schedule of interdisciplinary art education programs occurring at SFAI from May through August. Courses for credit include our renowned Art Writing Conference taught by Mark Van Proyen with keynote speaker Constance Penley, as well as over 40 art history, critical studies, studio, and study/travel courses taught by leading artists and scholars including Steve Badgett, Andrei Codrescu, Monica Majoli, John Rapko, and Jennifer Reeder.
ACCREDITED UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
Over 40 studio and interdisciplinary liberal arts courses taught by internationally renowned artists and scholars open to the public with fully transferable credits. (5.15–8.25.06)
SUMMER MFA
A low-residency MFA program designed for artists, teachers, and other art professionals who currently have an active studio practice. (5.15–8.25.06)
PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM
A five-week intensive studio program where high school students (16–18) experience college life, study with SFAI faculty, learn modern and contemporary art history, and earn up to five units of college credit. Housing available. (6.26–7.28.06)
TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
A three-week summer intensive for teachers and teaching artists (K-12) to learn about curriculum development and strategies for integrating arts education into State-certified curriculum. Qualifies for Continuing Education units. (7.17–8.04.06)
YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM
A two-session program that encourages creative thinking and self-expression in a supportive studio environment for students ages 13–15. (6.12–23.06 / 7.31–8.11.06)
ADULT CONTINUING EDUCATION
Evening and weekend studio and interdisciplinary courses open to anyone 18 and older. Whether you are preparing a portfolio to apply to a full-time art program or are looking for the camaraderie and stimulation that come from working with other artists, our courses will challenge and inspire you.
