ART HISTORIAN, 19th- and early 20th-century Europe

Teaching experience and a record of scholarly activity required, Ph.D. preferred. Contribute to art history department committed to wide range of approaches, and to a stimulating and creative art school environment. Teaching responsibilities range from first-year undergraduate courses to graduate seminars serving established MAAH program.

ARTS ADMINISTRATION

Significant arts administration experience required, with emphasis in arts/communities interaction; familiarity with contemporary art. Additional expertise may include art history, cultural policy studies, curatorial studies, or community-based art practice.

DESIGN HISTORY, THEORY, AND CRITICISM

Record of scholarly activity required; Ph.D. preferred. To support transdiciplinary programs, teaching responsibilities include introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, and graduate seminars in art history and studio design programs.

DESIGNED OBJECTS AND PRODUCT DESIGN

Practical experience in product and object design, industrial design, furniture design or emerging object-related arenas such as interface design. Substantial knowledge of manufacturing industry; expertise in production and prototyping technologies or in design development.

FASHION DESIGN

Expand innovative curriculum in Fashion, Body, and Garment. Active professional practice; fashion design, patternmaking and construction knowledge/skills; teaching experience, knowledge of contemporary fashion theory required.

BIOLOGY

Scientist with Ph.D. in biology or related field. Must enjoy interdisciplinary approach, working with creative students and colleagues well outside field. Encourage applicants in environmentally sustainable design, science of vision and perception, and/or art relating to genetics and biotechnology.

SAIC, a leading professional school of art and design affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago museum, is at the center of one of the country’s most exciting and diverse cultural communities. It is comprised of 16 studio departments and 7 academic departments with an emphasis on transdisciplinary study. Degrees offered include Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA with Emphasis in Art History or Art Education; BA in Visual and Critical Studies, and BIA (Interior Architecture); Master of Fine Arts degrees in studio and writing, and Master of Art degrees in Arts Administration; Art Education; Art History, Theory, and Criticism; Art Therapy; Visual and Critical Studies; Teaching; and Historic Preservation, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates and continuing studies programs. The School currently enrolls 2,280 FTE students and employs 150 full-time and 350 part-time faculty.
