HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts and the School of Global Studies (SGS) are looking for a postdoctoral candidate to conduct research on the relationship between design/craft and migration studies. With this announcement HDK and SGS are looking for meeting points between design, craft and migration studies. We are interested in post-doctoral proposals that combine perspectives, methods and forms of dissemination from design/craft and migration studies. HDK and SGS are in particular interested in research that combines theoretical, empirical and artistic practices and research outcomes that combine article publications and artistic expressions such as artefacts, documentation of interventions, exhibitions and the like. The research is conducted at HDK and SGS as well as within the Centre on Global Migration (CGM).

Recruitment is carried out as a collaboration between HDK and SGS with organisational affiliation at HDK. Working hours are divided equally between the two institutions.

The ambition of HDK, is to be one of Europe’s most attractive and exciting fine arts academies. HDK conducts research and delivers education related to design, crafts and educational science. Our teaching and research is based on an artistic foundation. The design and crafts subjects develop design and artistic expressions in dialogue with both societal and artistic contexts, alongside design and craft techniques, materials and methods determined by the practitioner. Research carried out at HDK relates to topics such as Design Politics, Critical Heritage, Child Culture Design, Citizen Multimodal Learning, and Design Management and Learning for a Sustainable Society and Enterprises.

School of Global Studies is an interdisciplinary university environment with research and training on current social issues with a global perspective. This involves research and education in peace and development studies, social science environmental studies, social anthropology, human rights, regional studies, world culture and globalised cultural heritage (Museion). Research at the school occurs in several interdisciplinary research groups, such as Migration and Diversity, Global Gender Studies, Global Heritage Studies, Reconstruction and Intervention, and Indigenous Studies.

The Centre on Global Migration (CGM) is an interdisciplinary centre of expertise and research at the University of Gothenburg working closely with external parties in society. The centre consists of researchers from the Faculty of Arts; School of Business, Economics and Law; Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts; Sahlgrenska Academy; Faculty of Social Sciences; IT Faculty; and Faculty of Education. The joint objective is to conduct research on ‘migration trajectories’ in a globalised world, based on a multidisciplinary approach.

Research carried out in the postdoctoral position will be through CGM, and the postdoctoral position is stationed at both HDK and SGS, which means that the person receiving the position is expected to spend time in both settings.

Responsibilities include
The postdoctoral position involves 80% research, 15% work at The Centre on Global Migration (CGM)  and 5% teaching. We are looking for someone who wants to take an active part in research at CGM. You should be interested in developing the multidisciplinary research environment within CGM and particularly in developing multidisciplinary research between HDK and the School of Global Studies with a focus on design or craft, as well as society and migration. Work at CGM will also have administrative components.

Qualifications
Qualifications for employment in the doctoral position include a PhD in a relevant subject area. Because the postdoctoral position is a career development position for junior researchers, our focus is on those who have a doctoral degree that is not older than 3 years from the day of application.
