“Art-in-Architecture” competition

Non-open art in architecture competition with preliminary application procedure for the new building of the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF) in Frankfurt am Main

A new building is currently being constructed for the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF) on Campus Westend, Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main.

The Institute’s new building consists of a 13-floor tower and a six floor base. It will signify the northern future entrance to the Campus, and it will be a landmark that is visible for a long distance.

The art in architecture competition invites participants to submit proposals for artwork concerning the atrium and/or the courtyard that appropriately reflect the buildings architecture and its location, and which contribute to fostering a sense of identity.

Type of competition
Non-open competition with an open preliminary application procedure. Contributions can be submitted in German and English. The language of contract and during the application process will be German.

The binding upper limit fort the work of art is set at 250,000 EUR (gross, including all side costs and fee).

Participants who meet the requirements for deliverables shall be awarded 2,000 EUR (including VAT and all side costs).

Eligibility and selection process
Professional artists and groups of artists are admitted to the competition.

A preliminary jury selects up to 17 participants to enter the competition. The competition is based on the guidelines for planning competitions (Richtlinien für Planungwettbewerbe, RPW 2013) and it adheres to recommendations from the Guidelines for Art for buildings (Leitfaden Kunst am Bau, BMVBS, Sept. 2012, 3rd edition) For selection criteria please refer to top III.1.10 of the competition announcement.
