NABA - Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti is pleased to announce the launch of all Visual Arts Department graduate and post-graduate programs in English language from autumn 2018.

NABA Visual Arts Department is an interdisciplinary institute integrating a wide range of contemporary artistic practices. Directed by Marco Scotini since 2005, it is a place for production and exchange, where art becomes an experimental pedagogical tool, bridging areas such as visual arts, curatorial studies, exhibition making, cultural studies, critical writing and art economy.

NABA Visual Arts Department innovative study programs offer students the possibility to engage directly with artists and professionals of international standing through a series of cross disciplinary activities—lectures, workshops, seminars, exhibitions—aimed at producing new operative models in the field of contemporary art.

Applications for the academic year 2018–19 are open for the graduate and postgraduate courses of the Visual Arts Department at NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti. All courses are taught in Italian and English language.

NABA offers scholarships open to International students for all programs. The scholarship competition for the Bachelor of Arts Degree Programs, academic year 2018/19 is open until March 10, 2018.

–The BA program in Painting and Visual Arts expands the traditional academic approaches to painting and visual arts by encouraging experimentation across artistic techniques and media. It offers theoretical and practical training in painting, drawing, graphic design, video, photography, sound design, art history, aesthetics, anthropology and visual culture. It also provides skills in self-promotion, communication, and organization in order to facilitate access to the professional world.

–The two-year Master of Arts in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies is the only program in Europe combining a solid education in the field of visual arts production with a highly specialized curatorial program. Students explore visual culture, visual arts and performance, curatorial studies, exhibition design, contemporary art management, art criticism, writing, and communication.

–The one-year Master in Contemporary Art Markets is an intensive study program covering the field of economy and management of visual arts, art law, valorization of art collections, contemporary art and museography. The program combines classroom activities, practical workshops and an internship in cooperation with international art galleries, auction houses, private foundations and collections, and a field trip to the Art Basel fair in June.

–The one-year Master in Photography and Visual Design integrates theoretical studies with practical projects in fully technologically-equipped studios focusing on various project areas from exhibitions to magazines, photo/video interactions, and corporate projects. The program includes an internship at selected publishing companies, editorial offices, photo agencies, archives, museums, galleries.

Since 2004, faculty and visiting professors have included: John Akomfrah, Marc Augé, Nanni Balestrini, Carlos Basualdo, Ute Meta Bauer, Erick Beltran, Daniel Birnbaum, Roger M. NABA - Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti is an education academy focusing on arts and design: it is the largest private academy in Italy, and the first one to have been recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), back in 1980. The academy was founded in Milan in 1980 upon the private initiative of Ausonio Zappa, Guido Ballo and Gianni Colombo aiming to challenge the rigid academic tradition and introduce visions and languages that are closer to contemporary artistic practices and to the system of arts and creative professions. NABA was selected by Frame and included in the Masterclass Frame Guide to the 30 World’s Leading Graduate Design, Architecture and Fashion Schools, as well as by Domus Magazine as one of Europe’s Top 100 schools of Architecture and Design.
